Rockin’ Floral Pants

How to Wear Floral PantsI’m back lovelies!!  So sorry for my absence over the past few weeks.  It was completely unintended!  It actually started with a business trip to the Chicago area week before last and then having family in town for Mothers Day weekend.  This week I was kinda in recovery mode….  but whew… I’m back!  I really missed you guys by the way!

How to Wear Floral PantsAnyway, you all know I have a tendency to become obsessed at times.  Well, right now, I am all over peplum tops and the floral craze!  It’s quite interesting because I have never been a big floral person.  I mean at all!  When I would think of florals, I would conjure up visions of hideous curtain prints and ugly bed spreads (which = not cool by the way).  But there is something so refreshing about this do-over that makes floral prints quite appealing.

How to Wear Floral PantsNow, if you’re a regular on the blog, you know I’ve tried pretty much every possible floral piece there is (top, blazer, skirt ) with the exception of pants.  Not sure why… but pants always seemed a little more intimidating.  But I decided to give it a shot with these J. Crew jeans.  I actually think that was the trick.  I really liked that these pants were denim and that they gave me a “spot on” fit.How to Wear Floral Pants

Of course, there are so many styling options for floral pants….  match the top to your pants (like I did) or be adventurous and try a neutral color on top.  Other styling options: add a blazer, a nautical striped top, chambray or a bright hue.

Have you tried floral pants yet?

How to Wear Spring Pastels

Spring PastelsWith all of the fanfare around spring brights, neons and florals…  you might forget about the traditional spring staple…  pastels!  Sorbet shades have been around season after season and this spring, no surprise, they are definitely back in high gear!

Spring Pastels 2013If you are a little hesitant to take on this more traditional spring look, there are some simple ways to keep it fresh.  For one, try a play on textures and fabrics!  I picked up this ultra feminine blouse from Zara not only because of the beautiful pastel hue but mostly because of the contrasting fabric sleeves!  Although the color may be a more expected spring shade, the sleeves helps make it a standout piece!Spring Pastels

Try other tricks as well with your pastel pieces….  For instance, add on fun accessories.  I choose pearls for my look to play on the feminine flair of the blouse but a fabulous printed necklace or even a pop of bright color would have been perfect as well.Zara Blouse - Spring Pastels

What I’m Wearing: Zara Blouse (sorry for the wrinkles folks, I had been sitting for a bit earlier which did not bode well for the photos!!), Zara Boyfriend Jeans, Zara Pumps (yes, I’m all Zara today!!), Vintage Gucci Clutch, Vintage Pearls, Michael Kors Rose Gold Watch, Versona Accessories Ring and Earrings

Zara Style: The Floral Blazer

Zara Floral BlazerI must give credit where credit is due….  I have to thank my fabulous friend Jackie at Style My Dreams for the inspiration for today’s post.  In one of my prior floral posts, she commented that she had recently purchased a floral blazer and I admitted to her that I was a little hesitant to go all in.  Granted, I have no real idea why a blazer would be any different than say a skirt or pants but something was just holding me back!  Jackie encouraged me to go for it and well…  I did!!  Thanks girlie!!

Zara Floral BlazerI found this fabulous piece at Zara online (of course).  I think the key to styling a floral blazer is to use the blazer itself as as your statement piece.  Pair it with a simple color palette – a white tee and jeans for instance (black waxed denim would be awesome as well – that’s next on my styling list) or perhaps a basic white or black dress.  It’s a great way to really stand out in a crowd and add some instant (and pretty effortless) glam to your look!Zara Floral Blazer

The Prabal Gurung for Target Collection

Prabal Gurung for Target DressI purchased this dress during all of the initial hoopla over the debut of the Prabal Gurung for Target Collection.  I happened to pick it up honestly because it was one of the few pieces that I was able to find that was actually still available in my size.

Prabal Gurung for Target DressNow, you might remember my initial post on a few of the other pieces.  While I was super stoked about the cute peplum top and the heels, I have to admit that I wasn’t all “head over heels” for this particular dress.  I thought it was cute but I just wasn’t loving it when I got home (which is probably the reason why you haven’t seen it before now).

Prabal Gurung for Target DressWhat was I thinking?  I mean…  after putting it on and styling it up a little…  I love it.  It’s quite cute and fits great.  But most of all, I love the colors.  Definitely spring appropriate.  I wore this to work earlier this week but this dress could easily serve many purposes and events.  It’s just a fun dress.  *Special Note* Yes, I somehow have a pink color theme going on with my recent posts.

Prabal Gurung for Target DressNow, the bad news….  you won’t be seeing the final dress that I purchased from the collection (check it out here).  I was excited about in the store but it turned out to be my least favorite once I got home.  Something was off in the fit in the arms — read * I couldn’t actually raise them*.  Add that to the fact that I felt a little like one of the original pilgrims in it and that pretty much equaled a “no go” people.

Color Alert: Pink and Mint Green

Pink and Mint Green TrendOf all of the recent color trends…  pink and mint green is probably my favorite.  I am definitely a pink girl (have been as long as I can remember)…  but I wouldn’t say historically that I’ve been a huge fan of mint.  After seeing Kerry Washington rock her gorgeous Oscar de la Renta gown for the NAACP Image Awards (see here) though…  I became, let’s say, inspired. Pink and Mint Green TrendSo, when I was on a recent weekend trip to Winston Salem and happened upon these mint green jeans (with polka dot print I might add — how awesome is that?) at Marshall’s, I immediately grabbed them from the rack and headed to the dressing room!  Added bonus = they were $10 on clearance!!!  It was the perfect find. Pink and Mint Green TrendNow, as spring and summer colors go, I think these two colors are nearly the best!   So airy and floaty….  they just give off that summer time vibe!  Honestly, whenever I see them, I tend to think about cotton candy or strawberry and pistachio ice cream scoops (but I am a bit greedy… so maybe that’s just me)!! Pink and Mint Green TrendWhat do you think about this color combo?  What other colors are you pairing mint green with? What I’m Wearing: Forever 21 Peplum Top, D. What’s Trending Now: Spring Neon Brights

Spring Neon Colors One of the biggest trends for this spring is neon colors! Of course, pops of vibrant color are nothing new.  We’ve been seeing more and more brights on the runways and in the stores for several seasons now.

Spring NeonsBut, while I’ve certainly embraced the color explosion, I’ve been a little more hesitant to go all in on neons in particular.  For some reason, when I would hear neon, I’d conjure up visions of Punky Brewster and those infamous jelly shoes from the 80′s!  Hmmm….  Thankfully this fashion remix is a little bit different.

Adding neon to your closet is pretty easy.  Add one or 2 neon pieces to a neutral color (whites, blacks or blues for instance).  Now, to get your feet wet, start with neon hued accessories such as necklaces, belts or purses.  For me, I started with this pink MK purse.

Spring Neon - MK Pink PurseI’ve had it for quite awhile (if you are a regular reader, you’ve seen it plenty before) and I’ve been using it to add a bit of pizazz to my looks.  Over the past few months though, I’ve built up the courage to add more basic clothing pieces, such as this Loft Cardigan.

Have I mentioned that I’m glad it’s finally spring??

BOGO: Black & White and Florals

Spring Florals Today’s post is definitely a mixed medley of some of my favorite current fashion trends: black and white, florals and even spring brights.  Of course if you are a regular  reader of the blog, you know that I’m all over florals in particular right now.  And with spring finally deciding to arrive, I’ve been ultra inspired to rock much of the latest spring fashion.Spring Florals

Enter this black and white floral skirt from Loft.  As soon as I saw it, I knew that it was a must have for my closet!  So, what does this have to do with Buy One – Get One Free?  Well, everybody loves a 2 for 1 deal right?  Well, think about this skirt as the ultimate BOGO deal!

Buying this skirt to dip your toe into the floral trend = getting the black and white trend for free!!!Spring Florals
